Overview

Under general supervision, the Research Technician I performs entry‑level, semi‑skilled research support duties, including routine technical tasks in the laboratory.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of laboratory experience or related areas.
  • Preferred:
    Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience or related field, and experience in neuroscience research.
  • Experience with immunohistochemistry, microscopy, behavioral analysis of mice, molecular biology techniques, tissue collection and processing, electrophysiology techniques, and stereotaxic surgery.
  • Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, computer equipment, lab preparation, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to multitask, work cooperatively, and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Responsibilities
  • Assemble and operate technical equipment; set up and maintain equipment for the assigned laboratory; update laboratory computers.
  • Maintain inventory and order parts and supplies as needed.
  • Maintain laboratories in compliance with OSHA specifications; provide logistical support with computers; perform laboratory and prep room cleanup.
  • Assist senior staff with major field experiments and procedure development.
  • Recruit, screen, and maintain records on research participants.
  • Assist undergraduate and graduate students with their research projects.
  • Participate in training and professional development sessions as needed.
