Research Assistant – Agency, Texas A&M University Health Science Center, Department of Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics
Job DescriptionThe Research Assistant supports research activities in the Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics (NExT). The role involves administrative, technical, and laboratory support for projects, with a focus on spinal cord injury mechanisms. The position is grant‑funded and may be contingent upon future funding.
Location & ScheduleBryan, Texas. Full‑time. Work may require evenings, weekends or beyond normal office hours.
SalaryCommensurate with education and experience.
Responsibilities- Assist in the design, planning, and coordination of research experiments.
- Apply standard techniques and maintain detailed data records.
- Install, operate, and repair research equipment.
- Use computers and laboratory instruments for data analysis and statistical evaluation.
- Collect, record, maintain, and analyze experimental data.
- Maintain core department resources including autoclaves, liquid nitrogen tanks, confocal microscopes, eyewash stations, and the behavioral core.
- Coordinate facilities‑related repairs and support PI laboratories.
- Assist in preparing and writing proposals to funding agencies and maintaining financial accounts related to research projects.
- Prepare reports, invoices, and cataloguing records.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and other laboratory or field staff, including training on equipment use.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
- Prior laboratory experience.
- Strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills.
- Highly motivated, detail‑oriented, and with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Master of Science in Biology, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Psychology, or related fields.
- Experience requiring strong organizational skills, attention to cleanliness, and teamwork in similar settings.
- Knowledge of computers and software relevant to the position.
- Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
- Attention to detail.
- Intimate knowledge of NExT laboratory maintenance and equipment.
