Responsibilities
- Operate specialized equipment such as excavators, boring machines, wheel‑type ditching machines, graders, front‑end loaders, backhoes, and directional bore rigs.
- Clear and dig drainage ditches, dig and backfill trenches, and perform other construction and repair work involving heavy equipment.
- Operate smaller and less complex equipment as required.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment operation characteristics and maintenance practices.
- Perform strenuous labor for extended periods, work in extreme weather conditions, and endure constant vibration from equipment.
- Climb in and out of trenches, lift up to 50 lbs, and follow oral and written instructions.
- Adhere to company, city, state, and OSHA safety rules and remain vigilant to prevent shortcuts or inattentiveness.
- Cross‑train to build or repair municipal water and sewer lines, using backhoes, large excavators, trenchers, and hand tools.
- Punctual attendance, minimal personal phone calls, and carrying personal weight.
- Work overtime, travel, and weekends as required. Transportation to out‑of‑town job sites is provided.
- Valid CDL license; CDL a plus.
- Experience reading blueprints.
- Proficiency in directional bore rigs, backhoes, excavators, and trenchers.
- Ability to demonstrate skills in operating common construction equipment in realistic situations.
- Pass a background check and substance screening test.
- Strong understanding of safety procedures and ability to work under extreme weather conditions.
