Network Fiber Technician - Outside Plant - Bryan, TX
We are looking for a Network Fiber Technician to support the termination, splicing, bonding, grounding, documentation, and testing of fiber optic cables and related equipment to maintain maximum operating efficiency. The role includes installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting customer premises equipment, LAN/WiFi networks, NIDs, and ONTs, as well as performing OSP work and routine preventive maintenance.
Responsibilities- Set up, test, and maintain Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) installation for POTS, DSL, and networking services.
- Install and maintain CPE Local Area Networks (LAN) and WiFi networks.
- Install and maintain network interface devices (NID) and Optical Network Terminals (ONT).
- Perform skilled troubleshooting from the Main Distribution Frame (MDF) to the demarcation point including CPE.
- Respond to trouble tickets within acceptable company timeframe standards.
- Install Outside Plant (OSP) facilities according to engineered work orders or service orders.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance and major repairs to distribution systems.
- Conduct cable/fiber testing and splicing.
- Locate fiber optic cabling.
- Record and report all record changes immediately.
- Complete inventory replenish requests as needed.
- Respond to on-call rotation duties after regular business hours as needed.
- Work overtime when deemed necessary, including holidays and weekends.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- One to two years of experience in the telecommunications industry or related field.
- Some trade school training is desired.
- Professional demeanor with customers and colleagues.
- Meet key performance metrics.
- Physical ability to work in various conditions, including adverse weather.
- Physical ability to work from a kneeling or standing position for long periods.
- Physical ability to climb ladders up to 25 feet with proper equipment.
- Able to lift and carry loads of up to 75 lbs including ladder.
- Ability to work with basic hand tools and specialized equipment after training.
- Operate and maintain company vehicle/equipment safely and professionally, including a DOT certified bucket truck and trailer.
- Willingness to work as part of a team and independently.
