Salary$20.50 per hour (Year‑Round Intern Maintenance Tech). Minimum salary: $32,332.00. Maximum salary: $47,355.00.

- Perform entry‑level and routine maintenance work, including plant and landscape maintenance, maintenance of comfort stations, and rights‑of‑way.
- Assist in repairing and erecting signs, repairing drums and/or barricades, and moving related items.
- Assist in warehousing and supply functions.
- Assist with repairs to potholes, roadway shoulders and edges, guardrails, signs, and other related work.
- Assist with traffic control, including placing and gathering cones, flagging traffic, and other related work.
- Operate light equipment (must be at least 18 years of age and have a valid driver’s license).
- Maintain picnic and rest areas, rights‑of‑way, maintenance yards, and comfort stations.
- Move and pick up litter and roadway debris.
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs on equipment.
- Perform plant and landscape maintenance, including trimming trees, brush removal, mowing, fertilizing, and watering.
- Perform some carpentry work and some clerical duties.
- Repair and install posts and mailbox supports.
- Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Education: Must be a student in high school or another educational institution, or accepted into a college, university or educational institution.
- Experience: No experience required; experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time employment.
- Other Conditions:
- Must be at least 16 years of age and a student currently enrolled in high school or any institution of higher education, including a trade/vocational school.
- Employees at least 18 years of age with a valid driver’s license may be assigned driving duties and may use power tools.
- Some skill in using computers and applicable programs, applications, and systems.
- Ability to:
- Communicate effectively.
- Follow verbal and written instructions.
- Follow applicable safety standards, practices and procedures.
- Protect sensitive and confidential information.
- Required to wear protective hard hat and other personal protective equipment.
- Exposure to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection.
- Medium work:
Lift up to 50 lbs at a time and frequently lift or carry objects up to 25 lbs. - Balancing‑walking, standing, crouching on various surfaces without falling.
- Kneeling‑bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee(s).
- Lifting‑raising objects from lower to higher position/horizontally to a different position.
- Reaching‑extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
- Standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Close visual acuity: work includes visual inspection of small defects/parts.
- Close visual acuity: using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts.
- Visual acuity: operate machines such as drill presses, power saws, and mills.
- Job is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions and may be subject to random drug testing. The Department of Transportation’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Regulation (49 CFR Part 40) does not authorize “medical marijuana” under state law to be a valid medical explanation for a positive drug test result for this position.
