ROLE OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the operation of the company's transportation network. Develops and maintains transportation and distribution procedures to maximize delivery efficiency. Selects appropriate delivery methods to minimize delivery costs and maximize customer satisfaction. Contract with third party transportation providers to develop broader network. Ensures the alignment between third party partners and material providers to fulfill internal and third-party transportation needs.

DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES (summary of components that make up the job)

DISPATCH COORDINATION

* Collaborate with Asphalt, Construction and Concrete divisions to determine dispatch requirements, review previous processes and identify improvement possibilities to create an efficient, effective dispatch system. Compile and maintain overall trucking schedule to efficiently utilize fleet

* Identify and communicate trucking dispatch issues quickly and honestly

* Manage the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serve as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management

* Maximize fleet utilization with internal and external opportunities

* Assist in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement opportunities and customer satisfaction

FLEET/PERSONEL REQUIREMENTS

* Responsible for communicating Safety Policy and ensuring employees adhere to safe work practices

* Knowledge of DOT regulations and responsibility for compliance

* Coordinate fleet maintenance with Shop Manager to ensure Preventive Maintenance program is adhered to. Analyze historical fleet usage, project future variations, and compile availability data

* Manage performance of branch employees with emphasis on safety, productivity, efficiency, and service delivery

* Recruit, interview, select, train, motivate, coach, and mentor drivers

COORDINATE OWNER OPERATOR CONTRACTS and PERFORMANCE

* Develop partnerships with outside leased trucks to efficiently service market demand

* Communicate effectively (verbal, listening, written) and work with difficult people under high stress situations. Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills; ability to maintain positive customer relations & act courteous/respectful of others

* Troubleshoot and problem solve situations. Monitor and discuss production problems with co-workers and managers/supervisors

* Ensure OSHA, EPA, DNR, safety and environmental regulation compliance

* Performs other duties as assigned

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (minimum educational, experience, or other relevant job requirements)

* High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor's degree in logistics, transportation, business, or a related field preferred but not required.

* 1-3 years of experience in trucking, logistics, dispatch, construction materials, or related operations preferred.

* Prior experience in a lead, coordinator, or dispatcher role is a plus but not required.

* Exposure to fleet operations, scheduling, or customer service in a transportation or industrial environment is beneficial.

* Willingness to learn DOT regulations, safety standards, and fleet management practices.
