Title:
Special Education Resource (Inclusion) Teacher.
Reports to:
Principal. Supervises:
Instructional Assistant(s) (if applicable).
- Provide direct instruction based on student’s IEP and the Arizona State Standards.
- Conduct appropriate academic evaluations; develop, implement and monitor appropriate academic/behavioral Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Confer and consult with regular classroom teachers regarding student needs and progress.
- Maintain accurate records for documentation of student progress and for compliance with district, federal, and state guidelines.
- Participate in the MET process.
- Plan, conduct and/or participate in training activities and department meetings.
- May be required to participate in student’s meetings that may occur beyond the staff’s work assignment schedule.
- Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
- Maintain on‑going communication with parents of special education students through conferences and other means to discuss pupils’ progress and interpret the school program.
- Provide on‑going consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development, design, and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties.
- Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
- Consult with staff members regarding interventions and accommodations for students; demonstrate willingness to be flexible and creative to meet individual student needs.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service professional development activities provided by the District and/or self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Arizona Special Education Teacher certification (required).
- Must obtain and maintain an AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
- Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, practices, materials, equipment, and compliance standards required to provide appropriate learning experiences for special education students.
- Good knowledge of the nature and effects of the impairment(s) in all areas of disability.
- Ability to assess needs, develop and implement the IEP, and evaluate outcomes in specialty.
- Ability to coordinate activities with related and specialist staff.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers, parents and the community; excellent human relations skills; skill in both oral and written communication; ability to work in a multicultural environment with diverse population of students, staff, and parents.
- May be required to control certain behavior(s) through physical restraint.
- Computer proficiency in district designated computer hardware and software including MET and IEP software programs and other relevant software.
Starting base salary $45,310 per year, plus $350 per year for prior experience (no cap), plus education credit beyond BA/BS;
Teach
011 stipend $5,350; plus $10,000 Sped Hard to fill stipend.
- Fully paid medical, dental, vision, and single‑salary life insurance for employee only.
- Accrual of up to 5 days of earned paid sick time.
- Accrual of up to 7 days of personal business leave.
- Arizona State Retirement System membership.
Exempt, 10‑month position, 189 days.
