Bus Monitor - Buckeye Elementary School District

Starting Date: Aug 3, 2026

Position Type: Part‑Time

Salary: $15.49 per hour

Job Description

Assist the Self Contained Special Education Teacher in implementing Individual Education Programs for students with various disabilities in a self‑contained classroom. Provide a well‑organized and smooth functioning class/computer lab environment to support the instructional program.

Qualifications
  • Must obtain and maintain an AZ DPS IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (required).
  • High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience working with school‑aged children.
  • Experience working with children with various learning and physical disabilities (preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret general documents such as employee handbooks and safety/training manuals.
  • Ability to write general correspondence and speak effectively with others.
  • Ability to interpret assortment of instructions furnished in variable forms.
  • Ability to research and solve moderately complex issues with little or no assistance.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Participate in planning and modifying activities/work assignments for individual students.
  • Assist the teacher in implementing the activities/work assignments for students (small groups and individuals).
  • Follow a lesson plan, chart or guide developed by the teacher.
  • Consult frequently with the teacher about student needs, suggestions, questions, problems, and progress.
  • Assist in progress monitoring of students.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom discipline and control.
  • Maintain legible records of student work with teacher direction.
  • Assist in preparing instructional materials.
  • Attend district in‑service workshops for instructional aides when release time or pay is given.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Participate in the Medicaid Reimbursement program (maintaining monthly logs and attending scheduled training).
  • Assist with personal care activities for self‑contained students, including feeding, toileting and medical protocol.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, employees, community members and vendors.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements

Stand frequently, talk, hear, walk and sit. Occasionally lift or push up to 50 pounds. Close vision required to read handwritten or typed material. Must meet multiple demands from various people and interact with the public.

Working Environment

Moderate to moderately high noise level during school day. Periods of recurring stress may occur.

Terms of Employment

FY 2026/2027. Non‑Exempt, 10‑month position, 186 days. 6 hours/day. Participation in Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). 60–90 day probation for holiday pay/leave accrual.
