Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Community Preparedness Advocate will serve as a key connector for the community, helping individuals prepare for emergencies, including natural disasters, economic downturns, or potential societal upheaval. We're looking for someone with genuine, hands-on expertise in preparedness — not just general outreach experience — who is passionate about helping others build real resilience. The ideal candidate has deep working knowledge of preparedness strategies, is able to facilitate engaging workshops, create community plans for readiness, and possesses strong interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport within diverse communities.

Job Duties Community Preparedness Advocate typically has a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:
  • Support Networks: Facilitate the formation of support networks among community members to share resources, skills, and knowledge.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with community members, organizations, and leaders to foster awareness about preparedness strategies.
  • Workshops and Training: Plan and conduct workshops, seminars, and training sessions on topics such as food storage, emergency plans, first aid, and resource management.
  • Resource Development: Create and distribute educational materials and resources to assist individuals in their preparedness efforts.
  • Assessments: Conduct surveys and assessments to identify community needs and tailor preparedness programs accordingly.
  • Crisis Communication: Act as a point of contact during emergencies, providing updated information and guidance to the community.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with local government agencies, NGOs, and other stakeholders to create comprehensive preparedness plans.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in emergency preparedness, crisis management, or related outreach — demonstrated through personal practice, professional background, or community involvement (e.g., CERT, Red Cross, preparedness or homesteading communities)
  • Strong understanding of emergency preparedness practices and resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and lead hands-on workshops on topics such as food storage, water security, first aid, and off-grid resource management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in using digital communication tools and social media for outreach.
  • Genuine, hands-on expertise and passion for preparedness and resilience — this is a required qualification, not a nice-to-have.
  • Empathetic and culturally sensitive, able to connect with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and provide leadership during crises.

Pay Range: $23 – $25/Hour DOE
