Responsibilities

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN records patient history and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to patient care plans, including medication administration, IV line management, therapies, and observation. The RN teaches patients and families self-management, diet, exercise, and medication use, and provides direction to licensed practical nurses and aides.

The RN supports clinical knowledge advancement, precepts new staff, and enhances competency skills. The RN strives for continuous improvement in patient care.

Essential Functions
  • Collect and prioritize health data systematically, involving the family as appropriate.
  • Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient care plans.
  • Identify individualized expected outcomes and tailor plans to meet patient conditions.
  • Implement interventions and initiate treatments, medications, and emergency measures per standing orders, policies, and procedures.
  • Evaluate patient progress, document observations and interventions, and adjust care plans to maintain and enhance outcomes.
  • Assess and maintain nursing practice quality and effectiveness, ensuring compliance with professional standards and regulations.
  • Integrate ethical principles, cultural competence, and diversity considerations into all aspects of care.
  • Collaborate with peers and multidisciplinary team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
  • Develop evidence-based standards of care, assess changes, and facilitate adoption of improvements.
  • Consider safety, effectiveness, and cost factors in planning and delivering patient care.
Education
  • Other / Certificate:
    All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years of RN experience uired.
  • Associate or Diploma in Nursing:
    For staff with direct responsibility for stroke patients, refer to the stroke-specific education addendum—PRIOR TO START. Required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Preferred.
Experience
  • 2 years in Preop PACU; open to ICU or ED experience.
  • More than 10 months in med‑surg or acute specialty setting. Required.
  • 1 year RN experience for all float positions. Required.
Licenses & Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area DOP. Required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license:
    State or Compact State licensure in Arizona upon hire. Required.
  • National certification for unit‑specific patient population. Preferred.
