Responsibilities

General Statement of Responsibilities: Under supervision, performs routine security functions to ensure the protection of property and the safety of students and staff at an assigned school; and performs related duties as required.

Principal Duties:

  • Observe school grounds and monitor the parking lot to ensure safety and security of students and staff and prevent trespassing, vandalism, and loitering.
  • Report acts of trespassing, vandalism, and loitering to supervisory staff.
  • Check doors and windows to ensure they are properly secured.
  • Monitor school entrances to prevent unauthorized entry to the building.
  • Patrol hallways and lavatories within the building to ensure only authorized persons have access and to prevent vandalism.
  • Monitor lunchroom areas to maintain order among students and prevent vandalism.
  • Assist in the supervision of students on school buses and in school to maintain discipline and order.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with students, staff, and community members.
  • Regulate student behavior on campus, in cafeterias, restrooms, and other open areas.
  • Check passes and identification cards.
  • Control classroom disturbances and defiance of authority when required.
  • Use reasonable judgment in attempting to identify trespassers.
  • Direct traffic and parking on campus.
  • Observe and report violations of safety and health codes.
  • Transport district vehicles to/from the district Transportation Department.
  • Perform computer knowledge and writing tasks.
  • Engage in campus beautification (pick‑up trash).
  • Operate a golf cart.
  • Restrain students for their own safety when necessary.
  • Maintain knowledge of the flag and proper procedures when displaying and safeguarding it.
  • Be self‑motivated and responsible.
  • Maintain a professional appearance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Occupational Condition

Low to Medium Risk.

Physical Requirements

Walking or standing to a significant degree. Exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, or up to ten (10) pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force frequently to move objects.

Skills Required
  • Knowledge of basic methods of providing site security and safety; knowledge of basic safety rules and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment when responding to safety and security violations and emergencies.
  • Ability to work with school‑aged children in enforcing safety and security rules and procedures.
  • Good oral communication skills, good human relations, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED.
  • Obtain and maintain First Aid and CPR card.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Class D License.
  • Submit to annual and random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Acceptable driving record for the last three years.
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC).
  • Private security or public police experience preferred, including knowledge of school and local laws (including search and seizure).

Evaluation Procedure

The evaluation is conducted by the supervising administrator with input from the site principal and lead campus security, in accordance with provisions specified in governing board policy.

Supervision Received

The Campus Security will receive direct supervision from the Lead Campus Security, with overall supervision from an administrator on campus.
