Maintenance Engineer (Electrical) – Crisp Malt, Portgordon

This position offers a salary up to £48,000 plus call‑out payments, and reports to the Maltings Manager. The Electrical Engineer will carry out planned and reactive maintenance of all site and plant equipment, ensuring production levels are met in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), trade-related legislation and best practice.

Primary Objective

Ensure all plant equipment operates at required levels of performance while maintaining compliance with GMP, applicable legislation and corporate policies. Provide on‑call cover for out‑of‑hours breakdowns.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance of electrical and associated plant equipment.
  • Contribute to efficiency improvements across the site.
  • Identify and report opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Complete maintenance paperwork and computer entries in accordance with company procedures.
  • Recommend improvements to equipment operation where appropriate.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant where necessary.
  • Perform basic mechanical repairs as part of the on‑call rota.
  • Maintain full compliance with electrical engineering regulations (ATEX, Health & Safety at Work Act, etc.) and food safety regulations.
  • Participate in continued personal development, keeping up to date with new techniques, processes, and equipment.
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping and safety.
  • Execute other duties reasonably requested by management.
General Responsibilities

Person Specification
  • Electrical testing and fault finding proficiency.
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams for control circuits.
  • Knowledge of electrical installation and inspection.
  • Excellent problem‑solving ability.
  • Self‑motivated, able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Quality awareness and strong commitment to safety.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience Essential
  • Recognised Apprenticeship/Engineering qualification with industrial electrical bias (e.g. C&G 2360 Part 2, BTEC, HNC, NVQ).
  • Demonstrable problem‑solving abilities and quality awareness.
  • Confidence in using computer‑based maintenance systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledge of motors, inverter drives, soft‑start systems.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Experience working within a maltings environment with knowledge of DSEAR regulations.
  • Familiarity with material handling systems such as bucket elevators, belt conveyors, screws and diverters.
  • Demonstrable mechanical testing, fault finding, installation and inspection skills.
  • Experience with PLC systems.
  • BS7671 Electrical Installations Course (latest edition).
  • Experience with lifting equipment (LOLER).
