Position: Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical)
Location: Portgordon

Maintenance Engineer (Mechanical) – Crisp Malt, Portgordon

Reporting to the Maltings Manager, the Mechanical Engineer is responsible for planned and reactive maintenance of all site and plant equipment to ensure the required levels of malt production are achieved, in accordance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all relevant legislation.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance on site equipment.
  • Perform mechanical testing, fault finding, installation and inspection.
  • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment and plant.
  • Maintain and complete maintenance paperwork/computer entries in line with company procedures.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to equipment operation.
  • Contribute to efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, food safety regulations, environmental procedures and health & safety legislation.
  • Maintain high levels of housekeeping and safety.
  • Provide out‑of‑hours call‑out cover for breakdowns.
  • Carry out other duties reasonably requested by management.

Person Specification & Qualifications

Essential

  • Recognised apprenticeship/engineering qualification (BTEC, HNC or equivalent).
  • Demonstrable problem‑solving abilities and quality awareness.
  • Self‑motivated with ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Confidence using computer‑based maintenance systems and Microsoft Office.
  • Demonstrable ability in mechanical testing, fault finding, installation & inspection, use of hand tools/fitting (PUWER).
  • Demonstrable welding and fabrication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

  • Experience in maltings with knowledge of DSEAR regulations.
  • Experience with material handling systems, bucket elevators, belt conveyors, screws, diverters, etc.
  • Experience in turning and milling.
  • Experience with lifting equipment (LOLER).
