Job Summary:
The Utility Operator performs a wide range of labor, cleaning, equipment operation, and plant support activities to maintain a safe, efficient, and continuous operations. This role supports multiple departments, in addition to general clean up needs throughout the Plant.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Perform general clean-up duties using hand tools and powered equipment including shovels, brooms, chipping hammers, jackhammers, concrete saws, walk-behind skid steers, wheelbarrows, sledgehammers, motorized sweepers, and vacuum trucks, as needed.
- Clean plant and mobile equipment, including but not limited to:
Unplugging chutes and silo feeders. Unplugging preheat tower vessels, feed pipes, conveyor drags, and belt conveyors. - Perform janitorial and groundskeeping duties, including changing air conditioner filters, mowing, weeding, and trimming as needed.
- Provide relief and fill in for other positions as required; perform additional duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor or Production Manager.
- Operate mobile equipment including forklifts, dump trucks, Bobcats, front-end loaders, haul trucks, water trucks, sweepers, backhoes, and man lifts.
- Observe all company safety policies, established procedures, and maintain clean and organized work areas on a continuous basis.
- Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment, perform basic maintenance tasks, and report any malfunctions or necessary repairs.
- Other job duties as assigned
- Ability to safely and effectively use hand tools, power tools, and mobile equipment.
- Ability to read, understand, and follow warning labels, safety instructions, and signage.
- Ability to work various shifts, including rotating, extended hours, and respond to call outs.
- Ability to work outdoors in demanding physical conditions include walking over rough and uneven surfaces, climbing ladders up to 20 feet and stairs, bending, pushing, pulling, and working in awkward positions, working in confined spaces, lifting and carrying materials up to 50 pounds frequently, 75 pounds occasionally, and 100 pounds rarely.
- Ability to efficiently work both as a team and individually.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and on radio.
- Must be available for on-call rotation, shift work including nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Ability to pass required background checks, physical examination, and drug screening.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required
- Experience working in a related manufacturing or industrial environment preferred
- Regular exposure to dust, loud noise, heat, dirt, and all-weather conditions
- Work at elevated heights up to 225 feet
- Operating mobile equipment may involve jarring motions and vibratory exposure
