Job Introduction
An opportunity is available for an Operator (Overhead Lines) based an Operator you will assist a Craftsperson with construction, maintenance, replacement and repair of overhead lines up to and including 33kV. All necessary training will be provided, although experience in the electrical field is preferred.
The work will involve being away from the depot, normally working in a team of two people. The environment requires quick, decisive and responsible actions to meet the demands of the role.
In addition you will be responsible for ensuring the van contains all essential tools and equipment, working safely and assisting with any labour required on site. The position involves outdoor, site‑based work in varied terrain such as muddy or uneven ground, so applicants should be comfortable working safely in these conditions.
A flexible approach to working hours and a valid driving licence are essential. You will need the ability and enthusiasm to work in a physical environment and undertake work at heights when required.
To apply you must hold an English & Maths GCSE (1‑9 / G‑A*) or an equivalent qualification, such as Functional Skills. Evidence of your qualifications will be required prior to appointment.
Main Responsibilities- Undertaking dead work on the LV, HV and EHV systems under the leadership of a Technician or Craftsperson.
- Operation of mechanical equipment.
- Inspect poles and overhead equipment and rectify minor defects.
- Trim and fell trees.
- Excavate, lay cable and backfill.
- Excavate pole and stay holes.
- Deliver planned shutdown notices and make appointments.
- Resolve customer complaints (directly where possible).
We are looking for a flexible and dependable team player who can support the team in meeting its objectives. A valid driving licence and the ability to work at heights or use fall arrest devices are required. Candidates should be willing to live within approximately 30 minutes of the depot they are applying for and must be able to demonstrate a maximum safe working load of 130 kg for use of safety equipment.
Operational requirements include a satisfactory Barring Service (DBS) check. Depending on the role, different levels of screening and vetting are required. Some roles require a triannual check.
