Job Title:

Environmental Geologist / Mid- to Senior-Level Project Geologist & Environmental Project Manager

Job Description

This mid- to Senior-level Environmental Geologist role focuses on leading environmental remediation and site investigation projects as a Project Geologist and Environmental Project Manager. You will own technical reports from data collection through interpretation and final submittal, manage multiple remediation projects and timelines, and coordinate field programs and subcontractors. This is an execution-focused position where you immediately reduce workload on Senior staff, prevent project delays, and directly support revenue continuity by ensuring high-quality, on-time project delivery.

Responsibilities

+ Lead environmental remediation projects involving soil, groundwater, vapor, and petroleum-impacted sites, particularly former and active gas station locations.

+ Own environmental reports end-to-end, including drafting, revising, and submitting Phase II, monitoring, and remediation reports to regulators and clients.

+ Interpret environmental data from field and laboratory investigations and translate findings into clear technical conclusions and recommendations.

+ Manage multiple remediation projects simultaneously, including schedules, budgets, deliverables, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.

+ Plan, coordinate, and oversee field programs such as site investigations, groundwater sampling, soil vapor sampling, and soil testing.

+ Work closely with project managers, professional geologists, and client managers to ensure alignment on project scope, schedule, and deliverables.

+ Drive project tasks and deliverables independently, ensuring work progresses without the need for constant supervision.

+ Participate in environmental consulting workflows from fieldwork through data analysis, report preparation, and client delivery.

+ Coordinate and oversee subcontractors and contractors on construction and environmental sites to ensure safe and compliant execution of field activities.

+ Support Senior project managers by taking ownership of reporting, data review, and day-to-day project execution tasks.

+ Contribute to remediation planning by integrating investigation data, regulatory requirements, and practical field considerations.

+ Step into field programs as needed, typically 10-20% of the time, to maintain familiarity with site conditions and ensure data quality.

+ Create and maintain project documentation, including field notes, data summaries, and technical memoranda, in a clear and organized manner.

+ Communicate findings, progress, and issues clearly to internal teams and client managers, supporting timely decisions and project adjustments.

+ Help prevent project backlogs by proactively identifying risks to schedules and taking action to keep projects on track.

Essential Skills

+ 5-10+ years of environmental consulting experience, with at least 4 years acceptable if strong ownership of projects and deliverables is clearly demonstrated.

+ Direct, hands-on environmental remediation experience, including soil, groundwater, vapor, and petroleum-related projects.

+ Strong understanding of the full remediation lifecycle, from site investigation and data collection through analysis, recommendations, and execution.

+ Proven experience in Phase II environmental site assessments, monitoring programs, and remediation reporting.

+ Demonstrated ability to own environmental reports from initial draft through revision and final submission, including regulator-ready documentation.

+ Advanced technical report writing skills, with the ability to clearly interpret and present environmental data and conclusions.

+

Experience with environmental consulting workflows, including fieldwork, laboratory data management, reporting, and client delivery.

+ Prior responsibility for project outcomes, including schedule, quality of deliverables, and coordination of project tasks.

+ Project management capabilities, including managing multiple projects, timelines, and competing priorities.

+

Experience with gas station site remediation and petroleum hydrocarbon-impacted sites.

+ Hands-on field sampling experience, including groundwater sampling, soil vapor sampling, and soil testing.

+ Background in environmental science, geology, geotechnical, civil, environmental engineering, or related disciplines.

+ Strong data interpretation and technical decision-making skills, with the ability to justify recommendations based on evidence.

+ Ability to operate independently with minimal oversight while maintaining accountability for results.

+ Clear, concise communication skills for interacting with project managers, professional geologists, client managers, and field personnel.

+ Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field.

+ Willingness and ability to participate in field work and travel approximately 10-20% of the time, depending on project needs.
