Chipton-Ross is seeking a CNC Machinist III for a contract opportunity in Buena Park, CA.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE)- 5+ years of hands-on CNC machining experience, preferably in a die cast or high-volume manufacturing environment
- Proven experience with 3-axis and 4-axis CNC machining centers
- Strong background machining aluminum and/or zinc die cast components
- Demonstrated experience performing machine setups, first-piece approvals, and in-process inspection
- Working knowledge of CNC programming (G-code); ability to edit and optimize programs
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and work instructions
- Experience collaborating with Quality teams and responding to inspection and CMM data
- Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and inspection techniques
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and analytical problem-solving skills
- Perform hands-on setup, operation, and troubleshooting of CNC machining centers, including 3-axis and 4-axis machines, used for secondary machining of die cast parts
- Machine aluminum and/or zinc die cast components to print specifications and tight tolerances
- Take ownership of assigned machines and processes, ensuring quality, uptime, and stable production
- Set up tooling, fixturing, work holding, offsets, and rotary axis positions
- Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring tools to verify part conformity
- Make real-time process adjustments based on in-process inspection results to maintain dimensional control
- Edit, optimize, and troubleshoot existing CNC programs; create simple programs as required
- Work closely with Quality personnel to review inspection findings and analyze CMM data
- Use CMM and quality feedback to refine machining strategies, tooling selection, and offsets
- Identify and proactively resolve machining issues related to casting variation, tooling wear, or machine capability
- Accurately document inspection results, setup parameters, and process changes
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on quality, scrap reduction, efficiency, and cycle time
- Mentor and support Machinist I and II team members, promoting best practices and a culture of critical thinking
- Follow all safety, quality, and production standards while demonstrating accountability and ownership on the shop floor
- Experience with vertical and/or horizontal machining centers with rotary indexing
- Familiarity with cast-part variation and secondary machining challenges
- Experience in continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, or structured problem-solving
Prior mentoring or training experience
- Accredited HSD/GED
