Role SummaryProduct Safety & Compliance Engineer III – Technical authority for regulatory compliance and product safety within the U.S. transit bus market. This senior individual contributor drives compliance early in design and influences engineering, quality, suppliers, and customers.
Responsibilities- Own compliance assessments, interpretation, and application of FMVSS (49 CFR Part 571) and CMVSS.
- Lead ADA accessibility compliance (49 CFR Parts 37 & 38) for transit bus products.
- Support FTA‑funded bus procurements and customer compliance requirements.
- Define verification strategies and approve test plans and compliance evidence.
- Partner with engineering and quality teams to manage safety and compliance risk.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, test labs, regulators, and legal counsel as compliance subject‑matter experts.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or similar).
- 7+ years’ experience in product safety, compliance, or regulated vehicle engineering.
- Hands‑on experience with FMVSS/CMVSS application.
- Working knowledge of ADA vehicle accessibility requirements.
- Strong technical documentation and cross‑functional leadership skills.
- Own compliance assessments and provide interpretations of applicable regulations.
- Lead ADA accessibility compliance activities for transit bus products.
- Support procurement and customer compliance needs.
- Define verification strategies, approve test plans, and maintain compliance evidence.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality to assess safety and compliance risk.
- Act as subject‑matter expert for compliance matters with customers, suppliers, regulators, and legal counsel.
- Occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds.
- Require close, distance, peripheral, and depth vision.
- Frequent reaching, hand, arm use, talking, and hearing.
- Occasional standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
