Overview
Wabtec is seeking a Product Safety & Compliance Engineer III to serve as a technical authority for regulatory compliance and product safety within the US transit bus market. This role ensures products meet applicable FMVSS/CMVSS, ADA vehicle accessibility, FTA-funded procurement, and APTA requirements while partnering cross-functionally to embed compliance early in design. This is a senior individual contributor role with strong influence across engineering, quality, suppliers, and customers.
What we want to know about you
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or similar).
- 7+ years’ experience in product safety, compliance, or regulated vehicle engineering.
- Hands-on experience with FMVSS/CMVSS application
- Working knowledge of ADA vehicle accessibility requirements
- Strong technical documentation and cross-functional leadership skills
Typical day
- Own compliance assessments, interpretation and application of FMVSS (49 CFR Part 571) and CMVSS.
- Lead ADA accessibility compliance (49 CFR Parts 37 & 38) for transit bus products.
- Support FTA-funded bus procurements and customer compliance requirements.
- Define verification strategies and approve test plans and compliance evidence.
- Partner with engineering and quality teams to manage safety and compliance risk.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, test labs, as well as regulators and legal counsel as needed as compliance subject matter experts.

· This role acts as the technical authority for regulatory compliance and product safety in the US transit bus market, embedding compliance early in design and across cross-functional teams.
· Engage with engineering, quality, suppliers, customers, labs, regulators, and legal counsel to ensure alignment and evidence of compliance.

Compensation and benefits
The salary range for this role is currently $91,000 - $129,800. The actual offer depends on factors such as experience, education, location, and business needs. Benefits information is available at Other benefit offerings may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
