Controls Engineer
A Controls Engineer designs, implements, and maintains automated control systems for high-volume manufacturing lines. They program PLCs, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, and integrate SCADA systems to optimize production yield and equipment efficiency. A typical job description for a Controls or SCADA Engineer role at Flex generally involves the following key responsibilities and requirements:
Core Responsibilities- System Design & Development:
Develop requirements and design SCADA and control systems tailored to production lines. Oversee equipment specifications and build requirements with machine OEMs to assure safety and performance. - Programming & Configuration:
Program, configure, and troubleshoot PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs). Program and maintain I/Os for robotic interfaces and vision systems. - Troubleshooting & Maintenance:
Lead maintenance teams in diagnosing system malfunctions to minimize downtime and resolve chronic equipment failures. - Integration & IT Support:
Collaborate with IT to seamlessly integrate SCADA systems with other database architectures, while implementing network cybersecurity measures. - Validation & Documentation:
Support the installation, FAT/SAT (Factory/Site Acceptance Testing), and validation of assembly and material handling equipment. Document system configurations, network diagrams, and change controls.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
Experience:Typically 5 to 8+ years in industrial automation, controls engineering, or SCADA systems in high-speed manufacturing.
TechnicalSkills:
- Proficiency in PLC platforms like Allen-Bradley (Studio 5000, RSLogix) and Siemens.
- Experience with industrial networks and protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, OPC).
Proficiency with SCADA software platforms like Ignition
