Overview
Hourly Pay Range: $19.89 - $28.84 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
PositionPatient Service Representative and Insurance Verifier, Rehab Services – Days
LocationBuffalo Grove, IL
HoursFull-Time: 40 hours per week.
Hours:
Tuesday - Friday 9 hours per day, plus 4 hours Saturday morning; 6:45am - 4:15pm Tue-Fri, 7:45am - 11:45am Saturdays.
Required Travel:
Float as needed, but not required.
- Perform patient registration functions in a courteous and professional manner according to established policies and procedures.
- Greet and register patients.
- Collect and analyze all required data necessary to pre-register and register patients. Interact with patients, their representatives, employers and others in person or over the telephone, and review new and previously recorded information. Analyze and electronically record data and process transactions into the hospital computer system. Follow HIPAA, payer and other applicable regulations and standards for registration.
- Use on-line physician ordering systems to retrieve and interpret physician orders/HMO authorizations for service and/or appointment schedules, and enter appropriate codes into the computer system. Contact physicians or physician office staff for additional clinical information.
- Explain, secure and witness all required signatures. Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) questionnaire when applicable.
- Scan insurance cards, IDs, insurance referrals and authorizations, consents, physician orders, HIPAA, Medicare ABN and other regulatory paperwork into the hospital’s document imaging system. Prepare required forms, documents and reports including labels, medical record forms, Medicare ABN and other special documents. Produce and distribute these as appropriate.
- Escort patients to and from treatment areas as needed.
- Process generated paperwork. Assemble and disassemble patient charts as required and prepare charts for Medical Records pick-up. Scan medical records in accordance with the guidelines set by Medical Records Department.
- Prepare and maintain logs and reports of various data of patient registrations.
- Conform to manual processes during scheduled and unscheduled computer system downtimes, organize and maintain all data to ensure a prompt and accurate recovery.
- Reconcile daily cash receipts with the day’s cash activity, credit card journal report and computer cash drawer.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings, stay informed of memos and policy updates, and communicate questions or problems to Supervisor or Director.
- Receive, respond to, or redirect inquiries from patients, payers, physicians and staff. Diffuse tense situations and maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Perform related duties as assigned, including filing, assisting patients with the rehab outcome database, organizing/cleaning work area, and preparing for next-day tasks.
- Assist and contribute to the training of new employees.
- Accept and complete special assignments and projects as required by the Supervisor, Manager, or Director.
- Maintain flexible work schedules including weekends and multiple registration locations.
- Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Associate’s Degree preferred. - Certification:
Valid driver’s license required if duties include an off-site location. If using personal vehicle, maintain automobile liability coverage as required by law. - Experience:
Minimum of one to two years of registration, scheduling, or customer service experience in a healthcare setting preferred. - Knowledge/
Skills:
Knowledge of health insurances, medical terminology and anatomy preferred; strong data entry and keyboarding skills; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; ability to read and interpret simple instructions; strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; ability to work with tact and sensitivity with patients, physicians, and hospital staff. - Other:
Manual dexterity to operate office equipment; ability to work in a setting with detailed policies and procedures.
