Job Description

ResponsibilitiesYou will analyze specifications, lay out metal stock, set up and operate machine tools, and fit and assemble parts to make and repair dies, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gauges, and machinists' hand tools.
Typical Day- Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools.
- Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; adjust as necessary.
- Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools.
- Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
- Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects.
- Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
- Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers.
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED);
Technical associate’s degree preferred. - Ability to read and interpret technical blueprints, BOMs, and other documents.
- Leadership capabilities and problem‑solving skills.
- 3–6 years of work‑related experience in machining or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Language ability:
Ability to read simple words and recognize similarities, and to print and speak simple sentences. - Mathematical ability:
Able to add and subtract two‑digit numbers, multiply and divide with tens and hundreds, and perform these operations using units of money and weight, volume, and distance. - Reasoning ability:
Apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions and handle simple problems with concrete variables. - Computer skills:
Knowledge of manufacturing software.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds; push up to 30 pounds; lift up to 10 pounds.
- Standing, walking, and standing 100% of the time.
- Reaching, stooping, bending 20% of the time; crouching or crawling as needed.
- Hearing and seeing requirements: 100% hearing; 100% vision.
Starting at $30.00 to $35.00 per hour, based on experience, education, and market factors.
