Senior Molding Engineer
The Senior Molding Engineer is responsible for developing, optimizing, and supporting molding processes to ensure consistent product quality, efficient manufacturing performance, and successful product launches. This role partners with production, quality, tooling, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve process capability, troubleshoot manufacturing challenges, and drive continuous improvement initiatives. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on molding experience and a proven ability to improve manufacturing processes in a production environment.
Key Responsibilities- Develop, validate, and optimize molding processes to improve quality, productivity, and process stability.
- Troubleshoot molding-related production issues and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Conduct process studies and experiments to improve process capability, reduce variation, and increase efficiency.
- Establish and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and operating standards.
- Collaborate with production, tooling, quality, and maintenance teams to support day-to-day manufacturing operations.
- Lead root cause investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Support new product introductions, mold trials, process validations, and manufacturing readiness activities.
- Analyze process and production data to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Drive continuous improvement projects focused on reducing scrap, improving yields, optimizing cycle times, and increasing equipment effectiveness.
- Provide technical guidance and training to operators, technicians, and production personnel.
- Ensure compliance with applicable quality standards, customer requirements, and manufacturing procedures.
- Participate in cross-functional projects related to process improvement, capacity planning, and operational excellence.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field, or equivalent manufacturing experience.
- 5+ years of experience in molding process engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related role.
- Hands-on experience with injection molding, compression molding, transfer molding, or similar manufacturing processes.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills within a production environment.
- Experience with process development, optimization, validation, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to use data and statistical methods to support process improvements.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple functions.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Experience with rubber, silicone, thermoplastic, or other molded products.
- Familiarity with scientific molding principles, DOE, SPC, and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Experience supporting medical device, automotive, aerospace, industrial, or regulated manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of tooling, automation, quality systems, and manufacturing validation activities.
- Experience supporting new product introductions and process transfers.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Buffalo Grove, IL.
Pay and Benefits:
The pay range for this position is $60.00 - $70.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
