CNC Machine Set Up Operator

Wabtec is now hiring for a CNC Machine Set Up Operator in Buffalo Grove, IL. Pay rate is $31.00 – $33.00 per hour. Schedule is 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday, with potential for 2nd shift availability.

Requirements:

  • Associate's Degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, or 6–12 months related experience
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, engineering plans, and GD&T
  • Ability to operate multiple types of CNC machines and equipment
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Basic math, geometry, and simple trigonometry skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
  • Commitment to safety and quality standards

On the Job:

  • Set up and operate VMCs, HMCs, TMCs, CO2 lasers, fiber lasers, break presses, and/or robotic welders
  • Perform light program edits on mills, lathes, lasers, or robotic welders, including tool offsets, reference points, and conditional switches
  • Maintain quality by observing drilling, cutting, turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations
  • Troubleshoot processes, detect malfunctions, and replace or sharpen worn tools
  • Plan machining by interpreting work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, and GD&T specifications
  • Verify machine settings and first-run parts using precision measuring tools like micrometers and calipers
  • Document production and quality activities to maintain continuity across shifts
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Follow safety procedures, maintain good housekeeping, and uphold 5S standards
  • Participate in ongoing learning to stay updated on technical publications and new machining techniques
