Position: R&D Lab Engineer (Appliance Testing Lab)

At LG Electronics, we are looking for a R&D Lab Engineer to join our HS (Home Solution) R&D Organization in Buffalo Grove, IL. The role supports new product development and testing using modern laboratory testing methodologies and equipment.

Opportunity

The R&D Lab Engineer will work in the appliance testing laboratory to provide quantitative analysis and engineering results for new LG Home appliance products. A creative mindset and aptitude for engineering and analytical studies are required.

Responsibilities
  • New LG NPI Product Development Support.
    • Provide engineering insight and improvement solutions for new product development.
    • Screen and analyze new product performance to decide on next steps.
    • Statistically evaluate and interpret collected product data.
    • Analyze field research data using statistical approaches.
    • Identify shortcomings and faults of current designs and propose improvements.
    • Use CAD-based software and engineering analysis tools to design and prototype new improvements for existing products.
    • Communicate with R&D and factory laboratories to provide U.S. usage‑based engineering and design statistics.
  • Performance Lab Functions
    • Create new LG internal testing protocols to benchmark NPI products.
    • Interpret CR testing protocols to adapt for CR benchmarking.
    • Develop and manage testing plans to accomplish responsibilities on time.
    • Benchmark competitor products to understand advantages and disadvantages.
    • Research new testing equipment, methods, and industry standards to explore improvement opportunities.
    • Program visual analysis tools to improve communication.
    • Create automated data‑analysis systems to calculate results from data sets and reduce manpower.
    • Develop custom reporting structures to improve the process from DAQ raw data to the reporting format.
  • Consumer Usage Understanding and Testing Method Creation Support
    • Research and verify new actual usage protocols.
    • Create new testing methods based on VOC/FFR/customer information against standard AHAM/DOE methods.
    • Run statistical analysis to identify critical factors for protocol creation.
    • Program automatically calculated testing protocol templates/layouts to raise efficiency.
    • Provide impact on DOE/AHAM/EPA standards through expert input based on test results and consumer facts.
  • High‑Level Data Acquisition and Analysis
    • Understand acquisition hardware/software to create acquisition models for lab purposes.
    • Guide lab technicians to use available technical resources properly for testing.
  • Qualifications
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related technical studies.
    • Relevant professional experience preferred, though not required.
    • Ability to perform minor programming and software analysis to create forms and automatic calculation models.
    • High‑level knowledge of analytical and statistical methods.
    Recruiting Range

    $52,700—$62,000 USD
