Salary: Placement per the teacher contract, based on education and experience.
Other Compensation: Mileage reimbursement based on current IRS standard business mileage rate for staff traveling regularly.

POSITION OVERVIEWThe Floating Special Education Teacher is a licensed special education teacher who reports every day but is not assigned to a permanent classroom or program. The role involves filling in where most needed across MAWSECO’s eight alternative programs, with the possibility of long‑term substitute work. The position primarily teaches but may also serve as a paraprofessional, administrative assistant, or other educational support when needed.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation: Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of special education teaching experience preferred.
Licensure: Current State of Minnesota Teacher License in Special Education (e.g., EBD, LD, ASD, DD, or ABS); EBD Licensure preferred.
Additional Requirement: Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
Abilities: Ability to work in diverse settings with students having a variety of needs.
ABOUT MAWSECOMAWSECO is an agency of seven member school districts providing quality special education services. We operate eight specialized educational programs, offering Federal Setting IV programming and support for students in residential care.
PROGRAMS- Cornerstones – Federal Setting IV program for adolescents grades 9–12 with emotional/behavioral needs.
- Eastern Wright – Intermediate level (grades 6–8) federal setting IV program focusing on social skills and educational support.
- Journeys – Program for children grades K–4 with behavioral needs, offering academic classes and individualized social/life skills.
- STEP – Educational program for young adults 18–22 with special needs, emphasizing work experience and independent living skills.
- Trek – Federal setting IV program for students with severe communication or neurological disorders (ages K–22).
- Sholund School for Girls – Program for students 12–18 within a residential facility for females, providing tailored education.
- Wings Alternative Program – Program for residents of Wings Adolescent Treatment Center (ages 14–18) with chemical dependency.
- Village Ranch Alternative Program – Program for students 12–18 in a residential facility for males.
