JobOverview
A press operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining machines that shape, cut, or form materials like metal into specific parts. The operator ensures machines run smoothly, monitors production, makes adjustments as needed, performs quality checks on finished products, and follows safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Operate punch press machines.
- Set up tools, feeders, coilers, and coil straighteners.
- Inspect and record part dimensions per quality plan and customer specifications.
- Recognize, report, and troubleshoot causes when parts do not conform to customer specifications.
- Unload and package finished parts for the next operation.
- Remove and clear scrap from press and work area as needed.
- Report part counts and labor accurately and in a timely manner.
- Read work orders or production schedules to determine specifications, such as materials to be used, locations of cutting lines, or dimensions and tolerances.
- Perform other tasks as assigned and required.
- Good communication skills, multi‑tasking ability, and careful attention to detail.
- Understanding of the basics of progressive tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and job packets.
- Proficiency with calipers, micrometers, protractors, height gauges, gauge pins and drop‑through gauges.
- Ability to read, write and speak English fluently.
