The Building Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining the overall condition of the company’s buildings in all locations. Performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and responds to service requests across plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general building systems. The goal is to ensure a safe, comfortable, and operational environment while minimizing downtime and extending the life of building assets. The position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

SCHEDULE
  • This is a part time position.
Major Responsibilities
  • Reflects the company’s mission and values in developing and maintaining professional working relationships with others.
  • Perform regular inspections of buildings, grounds, mechanical equipment, and systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.) to identify issues or potential problems.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and work orders, including repairing or replacing faulty components (e.g., light fixtures, switches, outlets, doors, locks, faucets, toilets, and appliances).
  • Handle minor repairs in multiple trades: plumbing (unclogging drains, fixing leaks), electrical (replacing bulbs/ballasts, minor wiring), carpentry (patching drywall, painting, repairing flooring/trim), and basic HVAC troubleshooting.
  • Paint interior/exterior surfaces, repair walls, and perform touch‑up work as needed.
  • Maintain and repair building exteriors, including roofing, masonry, windows, and grounds (e.g., snow removal, landscaping, trash collection when assigned).
  • Install or assist with equipment, fixtures, shelves, or minor remodeling projects.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and safety regulations; report hazards and maintain clean, organized work areas.
  • Keep accurate logs/records of maintenance performed, repairs, and inventory of supplies/tools.
  • Operate hand/power tools, equipment, and vehicles safely; maintain tools and stock van/supplies as needed.
  • Coordinate and supervise contractors for more significant repairs (e.g., major system replacements, structural work, specialized trades like advanced electrical/HVAC, or large‑scale projects); obtain quotes, schedule work, serve as the on‑site liaison, inspect progress and completed work for quality/compliance, ensure adherence to safety regulations and timelines, and resolve any issues.
  • May assist with emergency situations (e.g., floods, power outages) and coordinate with contractors for major repairs.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

Requires frequent sitting, standing, bending, and stretching, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces. Must be adaptable to a variety of environments and community settings. Must be able to drive or use public transportation in all types of weather. Heavy. Amount of weight moved: 50 to 100 pounds occasionally; 25 to 50 pounds frequently; 10 to 20 pounds constantly.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Access to a dependable automobile in order to travel to multiple company business stops a day.
  • A valid driver’s license and proof of current car insurance when using a personal vehicle for company business.
  • Have U.S. Citizenship or evidence of valid Alien Work Permit.
  • Disclose any conviction and criminal history records pertaining to any crime related to the provision of health services. A candidate who has been convicted of such crimes will not be hired.
  • Pass initial and ongoing background studies and screenings including but not limited to those of the Minnesota Department of Health and the Federal Office of the Inspector General’s List of Excluded Individuals and Entities.
Skills And Experience
  • One to three plus years of experience in building maintenance, facilities, general repair, or related multi‑trade work.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and general construction principles.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, adapt to change, and manage a variety of assignments while establishing priorities and ensuring the necessary duties are completed.
  • Ability to build and maintain professional relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience Microsoft Outlook preferred.
