5 days/week (Monday - Friday), 4 hours/day, 9 Months/Year Approximate

Hours:

Hours & breaks as assigned, hours may vary and will include daytime & evening hours Salary: $26.00 - $28.00 Per Hour, this position is eligible to earn paid MN Earned Safe & Sick Time (ESST), however, this is not a benefit eligible position.

JOB SUMMARY:

The American Indian Cultural Liaison serves as a primary connection between Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools, American Indian students and families, the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee, Tribal Nations, and community resources. The Liaison works to ensure that American Indian students and families have a strong connection with the school district and are aware of, able to access, and meaningfully participate in the academic, cultural, college and career, and other opportunities available to them.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• American Indian Student Support and Development:
  Builds positive connections with American Indian students and their families. Assist in planning and delivering culturally relevant American Indian Education activities, events, resources, and learning opportunities with and for American Indian students and families. Maintain comprehensive knowledge of Minnesota Tribal Nations and relevant cultural and community resources. Collaborate with schools, district staff, the American Indian Parent Advisory Committee, Tribal Nations, and community organizations to support American Indian students and families.
  
  Support students in accessing academic opportunities, enrichment experiences, cultural programming, college and career exploration, and other resources available to American Indian students. Provide positive reinforcement and support for the self-image, cultural identity, strengths, and aspirations of American Indian students.
• Other:
  Work flexible hours, including some evenings, weekends, and potential summer hours, as needed to support students, families, and programming. The majority of work hours will be during the school day. Attend American Indian Education Program meetings. The meeting is typically held the evening of the first Wednesday of the month. Maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the position. Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

• Education/Certification/Licensure Requirements:
  Comprehensive knowledge of Minnesota Tribal Nations and experience delivering culturally relevant activities and resources. Current Minnesota driver's license and reliable transportation.
  
  Preferred Qualifications:
  
  Member or descendant of a Federally Recognized Tribe. Minimum of two years of post-secondary education in a related field.
  
  Experience:
  
  Previous teaching or school experience is preferred. Experience working with American Indian students, families, Tribal communities, or American Indian organizations preferred.
