Tax Staff - Public

Description We are looking for a Tax Staff team member to support a public accounting team in New York. This position focuses on preparing tax filings for individuals and businesses while assisting with bookkeeping and financial statement work for smaller clients. The ideal candidate brings solid technical knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a client-focused environment.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and review federal, state, and local tax returns for individual and corporate clients with accuracy and timeliness.

- Maintain bookkeeping records for small business clients, including organizing financial data and reconciling accounts.

- Compile and assist in the preparation of financial statements based on client accounting records.

- Gather, analyze, and verify tax-related documentation to ensure complete and compliant filings.

- Use CCH Pro System and related tax software to process returns, track assignments, and support reporting needs.

- Communicate with clients to clarify financial information, resolve discrepancies, and request missing documents.

- Monitor filing deadlines and manage assigned engagements to keep work on schedule during busy tax periods. Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in public accounting or a related tax preparation environment.

- Hands-on experience preparing individual tax returns and corporate tax returns.

- Working knowledge of general bookkeeping principles and financial statement preparation.

- Proficiency with tax preparation software, including CCH Pro System or CCH Pro System Fx.

- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate work under deadline pressure.

- Effective communication skills for working with clients and internal team members.

- Familiarity with applicable tax regulations and standard accounting practices.
