Job Overview
Firm is seeking a Paralegal / Legal Assistant to support a busy New York litigation and Family Court practice. This role is fully remote and designed for a highly organized, self-directed professional who can manage case workflow, filings, and drafting under attorney supervision. This is a trusted role with ownership, not a purely clerical position. We are seeking a reliable, detail-oriented paralegal to support litigation and court operations in a role intentionally structured to be long-term, stable, and burnout-resistant.
Roles & Responsibilities- Case & Workflow Management
- Open and maintain case files
- Track deadlines, court dates, and service requirements
- Maintain calendars and tickler systems
- Monitor court notices and communications
- Ensure cases move forward without missed deadlines
- Drafting & Document Preparation
- Under attorney direction and supervision:
Draft first versions of Family Court petitions (Articles 4, 5, 6, and
8) - Draft routine motions, notices, stipulations, and proposed orders
- Prepare default packets and enforcement filings
- Draft factual and procedural sections of pleadings
- Assemble affidavits, exhibits, and supporting documentation
- Under attorney direction and supervision:
- Filing & Service
- File documents via NYSCEF and EDDS
- Prepare and track service and affidavits of service
- Monitor and resolve filing rejections
- Maintain proof of filing and service records
- Client & Court Coordination
- Coordinate scheduling and appearances
- Communicate procedural updates to clients (non-legal)
- Collect and organize client documents
- Prepare hearing and motion binders
- Manage logistics related to hearings and appearances
- Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience
- Experience with New York Supreme and Family courts is required
- Familiarity with NYSCEF and EDDS
- Strong drafting, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- High attention to detail and reliability
