Job Title: Housing Inspector/Admin
Location: Buffalo, NY
Type: Contract-to-Hire
Contractor Work Model: Onsite
Compensation: $21/Hour
Hours: Monday through Friday (8AM to 5PM)
Travel: Daily vehicle allowance:
- $20/day for more than 3 inspections or travel outside Erie County
- $10/day for fewer than 3 inspections within Erie County
Housing Inspector/Admin
This will be a dual role working as a Housing Inspector and Admin where you’ll play a critical dual role in protecting residents, and ensuring homes meet safety and quality standards while also ensuring keeping the office and department running smoothly.
Responsibilities:- Perform Housing Quality Standards Inspections (including Lead-Based paint compliance).
- Identify owner or participant responsibility for repairs
- Recommend appropriate corrective action for inspection deficiencies and communicate findings to owner and tenant
- Supply inspection clerk with information pertaining to Abatements for data entry and processing
- Complete inspection reports for each subsidized unit
- Ensure Housing Specialists have complete inspection booklet for file maintenance
- Provide general program information to the public
- Work with Rental Analysis regarding Rent Comparables
- Interpret and implement HUD regulations and guidelines
- Review data and finding to generate report on inspection of property
- Provide trending and data to HQS supervisor
- Provide monthly report to supervisor
- Ensure accurate tracking of failed inspections
- Prepare inspection logs and logistics
- Maintain all required records and prepare all required reports utilizing/accessing same records
- Open to travelling to various counties for inspections
- Providing front‑desk coverage during staff breaks or absences.
- Assisting team members with various administrative tasks and projects.
- Coordinating with tenants and owners to gather necessary information.
- Managing data entry and maintaining both digital and physical filing systems.
- Handling document scanning, copying, and packet preparation
- All additional duties as assigned by supervisor
- Certification in Housing Choice Voucher within 90 days of hire (training provided).
- 1+ year of experience working with the public in a Housing Choice Voucher Program, low‑income housing or similar field (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree OR an additional three years of equivalent experience performing housing inspections or fieldwork.
- Experience working with diverse communities.
