Business Architect (Enterprise)
Location:
Buffalo, NY - 14203 (Open for Remote, Mandatory Travel Required)
Pay range: $80-90/hr
This posting is for a Business Architect role. We're searching for someone with exceptional communication skills and tangible/tactical experience as a business architect. Experience with BIZBOK and/or BIAN preferred. Fully remote but must be willing to travel to Buffalo every 4-6 weeks.
Job SummaryThe Business Architect defines and evolves the enterprise's business architecture to ensure alignment between strategy, operating model, and execution.
This role establishes clarity on:
- What the business is trying to achieve (strategy and outcomes)
- How value is delivered (value streams)
- What the business must be able to do (capabilities)
- The Business Architect serves as the bridge between business strategy and enterprise execution, shaping target-state models, informing investment decisions, and ensuring initiatives deliver measurable business value
Strategy Alignment:
- Translate business strategy into capability, value stream, and initiative roadmaps
- Ensure initiatives align to strategic objectives and target outcome
Business Architecture Modeling:
- Develop and maintain business capability maps, value streams, and operating models
Transformation & Investment Guidance:
- Identify capability gaps and prioritize investments based on business value
- Support portfolio planning and initiative prioritization
Enterprise Analysis & Design:
- Assess business processes, structures, and systems for alignment and efficiency
- Define business-driven requirements for transformation efforts
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with executives, product teams, EA, and delivery teams
- Facilitate alignment across business and technology stakeholders
Governance & Standards:
- Establish and enforce business architecture standards and frameworks
- Ensure traceability from strategy through execution
Cross-Architecture Alignment:
- Collaborate with Enterprise, Solution, and Data Architects to align designs
- Ensure business intent is reflected in solution and technology decisions.

- Stakeholder facilitation and executive communication
- Problem-solving and structured decision-making
- Financial and investment analysis (business case, prioritization)
- Influence without authority across complex organizations
- Visualization and modeling (e.g., capability maps, operating models)
- Business Architecture Guild / BIZBOK concepts and practices
- Capabilities, value streams, organization, information mapping
- Enterprise architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, FEAPO-aligned definitions)
- Operating model design and business transformation methods
- Financial services industry structure, regulations, and risk considerations
- Portfolio management and investment prioritization
- SDLC and technology delivery lifecycle alignment
- Data, process, and organizational design principles
- Bachelors degree in Business, Technology, or related field (Masters preferred)
- 10+ years experience in business architecture, strategy, consulting, or transformation roles
- Demonstrated experience building business architecture artifacts (capability maps, value streams, operating models)
- Experience working in large, complex enterprises (financial services preferred)
- Business capability maps (L1–L3) with ownership and maturity assessment
- Value stream maps tied to customer journeys and outcomes
- Current-state and target-state business architecture views
- Business architecture roadmaps aligned to strategy and investment plans
- Capability heatmaps and gap analyses
- Business-driven input into enterprise roadmaps and portfolio decisions
- Executive-ready models and strategy artifacts
- Traceability from strategy → capabilities → initiatives → outcomes
