This is a full-time, on-site NICET Level II, III, or IV Construction Inspector/Observer role based in Buffalo, NY. The Construction Inspector/Observer will perform daily field inspections of civil and structural construction projects to verify compliance with project plans, specifications, codes, and agency requirements. Responsibilities include observing construction activities, documenting work progress and conditions, preparing detailed inspection reports, and communicating findings to project managers, engineers, contractors, and client representatives.
The role also involves measuring and recording quantities for payment, verifying materials and installation methods, and assisting with resolution of field issues or discrepancies. The inspector/observer will regularly attend site meetings, follow safety protocols, and maintain accurate records to support project documentation and closeout.
- NICET certification in a relevant discipline (Level I–IV), with strong knowledge of construction inspection practices and procedures.
- Experience in field observation of civil, structural, or transportation projects, including reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Proficiency in report writing, documentation, and basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office, digital field reporting tools).
- Solid understanding of construction materials, methods, and applicable codes or standards; familiarity with QA/QC processes is beneficial.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with contractors, engineers, and clients, and for conveying findings clearly and professionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, perform site visits on active construction projects, and adhere to safety requirements.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to project sites in the Buffalo, NY region and potentially surrounding areas.
- Relevant technical education (e.g., associate degree or coursework in engineering technology, construction management, or a related field) or equivalent field experience.
- Prior experience with public infrastructure, municipal, or transportation projects in New York or Pennsylvania is a plus.
