Overview /

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Construction Manager to provide full-time, on-site support for construction activities at the Buffalo Research Laboratory (BRL) Pilot Plant. This role will serve as the Client's on-site representative, overseeing daily construction execution, coordinating contractors, supporting quality and safety initiatives, resolving field issues, and ensuring alignment between construction activities and plant operations. In addition to field oversight, the position provides project engineering and project management support, including construction planning, RFI coordination, change order review, and construction site logistics throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as Client's on-site representative, providing daily oversight of construction activities and contractor performance.
  • Coordinate field activities to maintain safe, efficient work sequencing and minimize congestion.
  • Participate in pull-planning and construction coordination meetings.
  • Process Requests for Information (RFIs) and coordinate responses with the engineering team.
  • Perform field inspections to verify equipment installation complies with approved drawings and engineering documents.
  • Coordinate construction activities with ongoing plant operations.
  • Collect field redlines for incorporation into as-built drawings.
  • Develop, maintain, and update the overall construction site logistics plan, including parking, trailers, laydown areas, staging, and material flow.
  • Review contractor quality plans and identify gaps or improvement opportunities.
  • Support engineering by coordinating responses to unforeseen field conditions and drawing revision requests.
  • Review contractor change orders for accuracy, completeness, and validity.
  • Prepare daily construction status reports and bi-weekly progress reports covering completed work, upcoming activities, project risks, RFIs, and change orders.
Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years' experience managing construction activities on industrial capital projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction management, contractor coordination, and field execution.
  • Experience supporting engineering teams through RFIs and field issue resolution.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment submittals, and construction documentation.
  • Experience coordinating construction activities within an operating industrial facility.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work full-time on-site, up to six days per week, supporting extended work schedules as project needs require.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting pilot plants, chemical manufacturing, or process industrial facilities.
  • Background in project engineering or project management.
  • Experience developing construction site logistics and staging plans.
  • Familiarity with construction quality planning and contractor quality management processes.
  • Experience reviewing construction change orders and supporting project controls.
  • Experience coordinating with Engineers of Record (EORs) and managing as-built documentation.
