Overview
The Department of Pediatrics in the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo (UB), and Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo is seeking a senior level faculty member to serve as Vice Chair for Faculty Development in the Department of Pediatrics. The ideal candidate will be board certified in pediatrics and spend 0.6 FTE in their clinical care sub-specialty, and dedicate 0.4 FTE toward the responsibility and oversight of the full range of faculty development activities for early career, mid-career and senior faculty within the department.
ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities Of The Vice Chair For Faculty Development Include
- Oversee recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty members within the department
- Nurture faulty by providing tools that allow contributions in the educational, research, clinical and advocacy missions of the department, and community at large
- Oversee new leadership training opportunities, and promotion of faculty professionalism and well-being initiatives
- Assist the Chair in fostering an environment that values and promotes faculty development, serving as the chief departmental advocate for investment and improvement in these efforts.
- Advise the Chair on identifying faculty development priorities, funding needs, and infrastructure support.
- Ensure that the department’s faculty development programs function consistently with our department values, especially in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion.
- Serve as an alternate representative for the Chair on university committees relevant to faculty development and wellness initiatives.
The Department of Pediatrics is composed of 18 divisions, all actively engaged in research and dedicated to excellence in patient care and teaching. Clinical activities are based at Golisano Children's Hospital, the regional center for comprehensive and state-of-the-art pediatric trauma, surgical and medical care, including neonatal, perinatal and obstetrical services. As one of the 43 freestanding children's hospitals in the nation, and the only one in New York State, the entire facility was built with children and families in mind.
The 12 floor 200-bed modem facility is an integral part of the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC), linking with Buffalo General Medical Center, Gates Vascular Institute, Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and more.

UBMD Pediatrics is one of 16 practice plans within UBMD Physicians’ Group, the single largest medical group in Western New York. We provide premier health care to infants, children, adolescents and adults. In addition to primary care pediatrics, we have 17 pediatric subspecialties. Our physicians make up the academic teaching faculty within the Department of Pediatrics at the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo and Golisano Children’s Hospital.
