Located in downtown Toronto, the largest and most culturally diverse city in Canada and on the territory of the Anishinaabeg, Haudenosaunee and the Wendat Peoples, the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering (MIME) in the Faculty of Engineering & Architectural Science at Toronto Metropolitan University invites applications for two tenure track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor in Mechatronics Engineering focusing on Advanced Mechatronics/Robotics, effective July 1, 2026, subject to final budgetary approval.
The successful candidates will engage in a combination of teaching, scholarly research or creative activities, and service duties while maintaining an inclusive, equitable, and collegial work environment across all activities. Teaching duties will entail teaching and developing curriculum at undergraduate and graduate levels, and supervising students. The successful candidates will further pursue a strong, externally funded, innovative research program or creative activity that produces cutting‑edge, high‑quality results.
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical‑Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field by the appointment date.
In addition, the successful candidates must present evidence of:
- a strong background in theoretical/experimental mechatronics/robotics that complements the research of the Mechatronics Engineering group, which can be found here. Relevant research areas may include, but are not limited to: embedded systems, hardware‑software co‑design, advanced control techniques, precision mechatronics, collective and interactive robotics, bio‑inspired robotics, micro/nano robotics, autonomous mobility, internet of robotic things (IoRT), high‑performance sensors and smart actuators, sensor fusion and network, AI‑enabled mechatronics, and biomechatronics, all for mechatronic systems.
- a strong emerging scholarly research and/or creative activity that is current, innovative, and impactful as evidenced by, but not limited to, peer‑reviewed publications, working papers, public policy contributions, presentations at academic conferences, community and professional work, grants, research‑related awards, and other writing or creative production that contributes to the visibility and prominence of the discipline.
- demonstrated potential for teaching excellence in Mechatronics Engineering at all levels of the undergraduate curriculum and suitability for teaching in the graduate program, as evidenced by a teaching dossier;
- a commitment to our values of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly research or creative activities, including a demonstrated ability to make learning accessible and inclusive for a diverse student population; and
- an ability and willingness to contribute to the life of the Department of Mechanical, Industrial, and Mechatronics Engineering (MIME), and the University through collegial service.
Eligibility for, and commitment to, acquiring the P.Eng. License in the Province of Ontario is a requirement.
