Responsibilities
  • Provide orientation, training, supervision, and regular evaluation of approximately 10-12 Community Assistants. Indirect supervision of other student staff/mail/package delivery staff (e.g., College Work Study, Student Assistants) as applicable.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of Paraprofessional Staff and other student staff.
  • Conduct bi-weekly meetings with individual Paraprofessional Staff to develop and review goals/outcomes, discuss concerns, recognize contributions, and solicit feedback.
  • Assess skills and development of Paraprofessional Staff while providing experiences, opportunities, and training that challenge and support their development.
  • Attend all departmental and divisional training sessions and workshops, as required. May include planning and facilitating training sessions for the complex and departmental Paraprofessional Staff.
  • Serve as a facilitator/instructor for the Paraprofessional Staff Leadership Class (as needed).
  • Provide orientation, training, supervision, and regular evaluation of one Assistant Complex Director (ACD).
  • Participate in the ACD recruitment and selection process.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the ACD to develop and review goals/outcomes, discuss in-hall programming, recognize contributions, provide feedback, and solicit input.
  • Assess skills and development of the ACD while providing experiences, opportunities, and training to challenge and support their development.
  • Supervise one to two Administrative Staff; provide orientation, supervision, and assist in training and evaluation of Administrative Staff members.
  • Participate in the Administrative Staff selection process.
  • Manage daily operation of apartment complex office point of service; attend departmental meetings (e.g., Residential Life, In-Hall Staff, Area Professional Staff, Assistant Director, Assistant Hall Director, committees).
  • Prepare end-of-semester and end-of-year reports (December and May).
  • Maintain general availability during business hours; evening commitments such as staff meetings, hall council, and program attendance are expected.
  • Use computer programs including Star Rez, Microsoft Office Suite, eRezLife, Maxient, OnGuard, EMS, and UB Linked.
Programming and Residential Life
  • Coordinate staff programming efforts in conjunction with the residential curriculum and community development; encourage staff and students in planning and developing programs to meet diverse residential student needs.
  • Supervise the in-hall departmental programming model, including program approval, reviewing proposals, providing feedback, and tracking program requirements.
Educational Strategies and Outcomes
  • Participate in development, execution, and assessment of educational strategies as part of the residential curriculum.
  • Conduct outreach to designated students for academic interventions.
  • Manage Paraprofessional staff one-on-one meetings with residents 1-2 times per semester.
  • Work with faculty and/or staff to develop community-specific programs/initiatives in Living Learning Communities.
  • Maintain regular communication with learning community campus partners to ensure programmatic needs are met.
  • Complete area-wide learning outcome–driven programs and facilitate programs and training around social justice and inclusivity in the residential community.
On-Duty and Crisis Management
  • Carry a department-provided cell phone and participate in the rotating on-duty system for the residential area, responding to emergencies in evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain a 15-minute radius of the duty area while on duty and provide on-duty coverage during university closures/breaks.
  • Use departmental protocol to respond to crises or emergencies, provide post-crisis referrals, and diffuse roommate conflicts.
