Alternative Instruction Teacher - Humanities

Position: Alternative Instruction Teacher

Reports to: Principal

Status: Full-time

The Alternative Instruction Teacher is responsible for teaching students who are out on alternative instruction. The Teacher will provide educational support services to those students enrolled, ensuring the effective completion of the curriculum that they are responsible for. The Teacher will develop creative forms of instruction to meet the needs of the students. The Teacher will be both on and off campus for instruction.

• Maintains professional standards per HSCS policies.
• Communicates with classroom teachers and gathers and returns work for the students.
• Supports the students effectively to complete and succeed in their courses.
• Implements teaching methods according to what is appropriate to the students' needs.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Working towards New York State certification or Teacher Assistant certification required;
  New York State 7-12 certification (Social Studies or English) preferred.
• Must have proven results in student learning.
• Experience teaching in an urban setting is strongly desired.
• Strong verbal and communication skills.

Salary: $36,000 - $42,000 (Competitive)

Appointment Status: Permanent
