Summary
D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine invites applications for the position of Chair of Biomedical Sciences. This senior academic leadership role provides strategic oversight of the foundational biomedical sciences within the Foundations of Medicine curriculum and related graduate programs.
The Chair will lead curricular integration across biomedical disciplines, supervise faculty, ensure compliance with COCA standards, and maintain a meaningful teaching presence within the preclinical curriculum. As a growing College of Osteopathic Medicine, DYU-COM seeks a collaborative academic leader prepared to contribute to institutional development, accreditation readiness, and educational excellence.
The Chair reports directly to the Associate Dean of Preclinical and Integrated Medical Education and works closely with discipline directors, course directors, clinical faculty, and institutional leadership.
Responsibilities Academic Leadership & Strategic Oversight- Provide leadership for anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, microbiology/immunology, and related foundational disciplines.
- Ensure vertical and horizontal integration within a systems-based curriculum aligned with COCA standards.
- Lead continuous quality improvement using student performance and assessment data.
- Represent Biomedical Sciences in accreditation activities and institutional reporting.
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate biomedical sciences faculty.
- Oversee faculty workload distribution and teaching assignments.
- Promote faculty development, scholarly productivity, and leadership growth.
- Participate in faculty recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Ensure rigorous and integrated delivery of biomedical sciences content across the preclinical years.
- Oversee assessment quality and alignment with COMLEX preparation.
- Maintain a meaningful teaching presence within the biomedical sciences curriculum.
- Engage in student mentorship and academic support initiatives.
- Develop and manage departmental budget in collaboration with the Dean’s Office.
- Ensure compliance with COCA standards and institutional policies.
- Participate in strategic planning initiatives and serve on College and University committees as assigned.
- D.O., M.D., Ph.D., or MD/PhD in a biomedical science discipline.
- Eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor within the College of Osteopathic Medicine.
- Demonstrated record of sustained excellence in medical school education.
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching biomedical sciences at the medical school level, with evidence of progressive academic responsibility.
- Documented academic or administrative leadership experience.li>
- Experience supervising or mentoring faculty.
- Familiarity with COCA standards and accreditation processes.
- Given current departmental needs, priority consideration will be given to candidates with primary expertise in Pharmacology, Pathology, or Biochemistry

- Experience with graduate biomedical sciences programs (e.g., MSBS).
- Demonstrated success in faculty development and recruitment.
- Standing and movement for extended periods during laboratory teaching.
- Frequent computer use for instructional and administrative responsibilities.
- Ability to safely lift up to 10 lbs.
- Occasional travel to academic workshops, conferences, and institutional events as approved.
