Join The Buffalo History Museum as a summer Education Intern and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of Western New York. Located onsite at 1 Museum Court, Buffalo, NY 14216, this position offers a unique opportunity to develop and implement engaging educational programs for our Junior History Buffs and Memory Café programs. The stipend for this position is $600.00, allowing you to gain hands‑on experience in a supportive and dynamic environment.

This internship will begin in late May and continue through early August, totaling approximately 120 hours. The standard commitment is 10–12 hours per week; hours may be adjusted to meet academic credit requirements for credit‑seeking students.

Day to day as a Education Intern

The Education Intern at The Buffalo History Museum is dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment that aligns with the Museum’s mission and values. This role involves crafting engaging lessons and activities for the Junior History Buffs program, scheduled for June 19 and July 17, as well as the Memory Café programs on June 9 and July 14. The Memory Café is a program that creates meaningful activities and experiences for people who are experiencing changes in their memory, as well as their caregivers.

The intern will research and coordinate with speakers to facilitate workshops that address mental health support and financial planning for caregivers of individuals living with dementia or Alzheimer’s. Additionally, the intern will supervise and facilitate these programs to ensure a welcoming and enriching experience for all participants. Collaborating closely with the Education staff, the intern will evaluate the success of the programs and implement necessary adjustments to enhance their impact on diverse audiences.

Requirements for this Education InternSHIP

To excel as an Education Intern, candidates should possess a robust combination of educational background and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:

  • Current undergraduate student, graduate student, or recent graduate (within two years) who has or is working towards a degree in Education, History, Social Studies, Museum Studies, or a related humanities field.
  • Demonstrates excellent presentation, interpersonal, classroom‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage diverse audiences, including children and older adults.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 software.
  • Confident engaging with children, school groups, seniors, and volunteers.
