Cheektowaga Central Middle School

Position Title: Spanish Teacher (NYS Certified)
Location: Cheektowaga Central Middle School
Reports To: Building Principal
Employment Status: Full-time, 10-month position

Position Summary

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for providing engaging instruction in the Spanish language and culture to middle school students. The teacher develops students' proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering an appreciation of Spanish-speaking cultures. The teacher implements district curriculum, assesses student progress, and creates a positive learning environment that supports student engagement and achievement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver standards-based Spanish language instruction aligned with district curriculum and New York State learning standards.
  • Teach Spanish language skills including listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Introduce students to the cultures, traditions, and history of Spanish-speaking countries.
  • Develop lesson plans that incorporate a variety of instructional strategies and technologies to engage students.
  • Assess student learning through formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instruction.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
  • Create and maintain a positive classroom environment that supports student engagement and respect for cultural diversity.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, and support staff to support student success.
  • Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, professional development, and school activities.
  • Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, and during school activities as assigned.
  • Support and implement school and district policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Spanish, Foreign Language Education, or related field.
  • Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Spanish or World Languages.
  • Strong proficiency in written and spoken Spanish.
  • Knowledge of second language acquisition and effective instructional strategies for middle school learners.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the classroom and school environment for extended periods.
  • Ability to use instructional technology and classroom equipment.
Work Environment
  • Classroom and school setting with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administration.
