Instructor, Gifted Math

Position Summary

The University at Buffalo gifted math program is looking for a part‑time experienced mathematics teacher for an after school math class at grade levels 7‑12. Classes take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. or from 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. They run from September through April.

• Prepare and teach 5 hours of class time per week.
• Differentiate instruction for a diverse group of students.
• Communicate with students, parents, and GMP staff by responding to emails and phone calls in a timely manner.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Post grades and assignments on UB Learns promptly or supervise an instructional assistant in doing so.
• Assist students with individual needs through feedback, phone calls home, and conferencing.
• Help students who are absent due to illness or mandatory school activities obtain missing work.
• Level 1 teachers participate in a new student orientation session.
• Level 2‑4 teachers hold one Regents review session after classes have ended.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Mathematics Education.
• New York State teacher’s certification for grades 7‑12 mathematics.

• Master’s degree in Mathematics Education.
