Fiscal Year Position Summary
The University at Buffalo, School of Public Health and Health Professions seeks a Clinical Full Professor, Director of the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program at 0.25 FTE to lead the design, accreditation, launch, and early operations of UB SPHHP's DrPH program. The Director will provide senior academic leadership to develop a practice focused DrPH that meets national accreditation standards and practice needs, with the program proposal and preparatory work beginning immediately, in anticipation of enrolling students in Fall 2027.
This role combines strategic planning, curricular oversight, faculty development, external partnership building, student mentorship, and a minimum teaching commitment to ensure a high quality, practice oriented doctoral experience. FTE may increase after hire based on needs of the position.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead program development and launch:
Direct the DrPH program proposal, managing internal (University at Buffalo) and external (SUNY and State Education) processes and requirements to meet launch goals.
* Accreditation mastery and compliance:
Ensure program design, implementation, and evaluation meet Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and other relevant accreditation standards; lead the preparation of accreditation documentation and readiness strategies.
* Curriculum design and assessment:
Design the DrPH curriculum; create course learning objectives, delivery, assessments, and syllabi; define program outcomes; and develop and oversee assessment systems to measure and continuously improve student and program performance.
* Recruitment and admissions leadership:
Oversee the development and implementation of recruitment strategies and admissions processes and execute soft recruitment activities prior to launch.
* Faculty oversight and development:
Oversee faculty teaching DrPH courses, partner with chairs for faculty teaching assignments, and lead faculty professional development to ensure quality of DrPH pedagogy and practice based teaching excellence.
* Teaching:
Teach one course each semester, including summer teaching.
* Practice integration and external partnerships:
Build and sustain relationships with state and national public health practice leaders and agencies, integrate practice partners into coursework and leadership practice, and ensure the program meets evolving workforce and practice needs.
* Experiential learning:
Shape and oversee the leadership practicum requirement including practice placements and student mentoring strategies, and guide student learning outcomes and assessment methods to ensure high quality practice mentorship for preparing leaders.
* Student mentorship and dissertation oversight:
Oversee dissertations-in-practice to ensure rigorous applied leadership projects; supervise and mentor faculty overseeing DrPH students completing a dissertation-in-practice; mentor and assess DrPH students in their leadership project.
* Strategic planning and resource development:
Lead strategic planning for program growth, collaboratively identify resource needs and advocate for staffing, funding, and infrastructure to support enrollment and program quality.
* Quality improvement:
Design and oversee continuous quality improvement initiatives across teaching and learning, student services, and program operations.
* National representation and recruitment:
Lead the UB SPHHP's presence nationally to recruit high caliber DrPH candidates and enhance the program's reputation, visibility, impact, and position among peer institutions.
