Position Summary
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University at Buffalo invites applications for Admissions Counselor positions based locally in the Buffalo area with recruitment responsibilities within New York State and out of state domestic markets. UB is seeking motivated self‑starters who can contribute in meaningful ways to the recruitment and enrollment of a diverse undergraduate community. As a member of the admissions team, the Admissions Counselor helps plan and implement student recruitment activities aligned with office‑wide strategic goals.
They serve as an information and student‑centered advisor, interpreting university admission requirements, academic policies and student service procedures for students, parents, and counselors.
This position requires strong communication and presentation skills and routinely involves evenings, weekends, and overnight travel.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities Recruitment- Participate in extensive U.S. recruitment travel within identified regions to represent the university at events, college fairs, community‑based organizations, and other opportunities.
- Actively manage assigned territories and execute data analysis to measure effectiveness.
- Build and cultivate key relationships and partnerships with secondary schools, community organizations, alumni, and professional organizations.
- Develop a recruitment plan for assigned territories; schedule and participate in virtual and in‑person recruitment activities.
- Help increase undergraduate enrollment at UB by developing new markets to broaden the qualified applicant pool.
- Serve as a liaison between prospective students and the Office of Admissions.
- Assist throughout the admissions cycle with phone, email, text, virtual appointments, and in‑person consultations.
- Provide on‑campus and virtual group presentations.
- Contribute to both small and large scale on‑campus and off‑campus admissions events.
- Assist with all phases of application processing, monitor files for completeness, data entry, and fielding questions from applicants.
- Review and provide admissions decision recommendations for freshmen and transfer applications.
- Become well versed with university admissions requirements and enrollment processes.
- Build knowledge of application activity and individual schools in assigned geographic regions.
- Monitor application data and use provided regional data and target information.
- Report on progress and adjust recruitment efforts according to enrollment goals and data.
- Contribute to annual plan development and provide accurate data for informed decisions.
- Provide ROI data and feedback on successes and challenges.
- Maintain awareness of technology and admissions systems relevant to projects.
- Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of experience (paraprofessional work in admissions considered).
- Prior experience handling customer service duties.
- Knowledge of college admissions and recruitment practices in higher education.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and presentation skills.
- Enthusiasm for higher education and college access.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Flexible and adaptable with a positive attitude.
- Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Strong work ethic and time management.
- Experience in virtual outreach services.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license or ability to meet transportation needs.
- Authorized to work in the U.S. on a full‑time basis without visa sponsorship.
- Master’s degree and prior high school or college advising experience.
- Experience executing high‑volume travel schedules.
- Proficiency in a second language, bilingual (Spanish or Mandarin preferred).
- Experience doing outreach to youth.
- Ability to move and transport boxes that weigh 25 pounds or more.
