The Nativity Miguel Middle School of Buffalo ((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).) is an independent, Catholic middle school (grades 5-8) that provides a quality, scholarship-supported education to underserved students of all faiths. Standing arm-in-arm with our families, Nativity Miguel makes a 12-year commitment to our students, starting in middle school and continuing through high school and college. SummaryNMMS seeks a dedicated and empathetic educator to serve as a Science instructor for students in grades 5 through 8. The Science teacher is responsible for designing and implementing high-quality lesson plans aligned with state and national standards. They are adept at incorporating educational technology, project- and problem-based learning curricula, and allowing student agency to drive instruction. They are also empathetic, team-oriented, flexible, culturally sensitive, and fun.
They understand the use of data to improve student outcomes, and they enjoy the opportunity to create programs that help students realize their unique potential.
This teacher will be responsible for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade science courses in . In addition to teaching responsibilities, all Nativity Miguel Middle School faculty are required to be on campus from 8:15 AM to 4:15 PM and to oversee duties as assigned by the principal. These may include occasional responsibilities outside of regular school hours. Additional stipend opportunities may exist to serve as a club advisor, coach, or program coordinator.

- Use “Understanding By Design” or “Universal Design for Learning” to develop, implement, and evaluate lesson plans for units of study in science.
- Be familiar with the Open Sci Ed materials and/or comfortable teaching with an integrated sciences curriculum.
- Use high-quality assessment techniques to provide timely feedback to students and families.
- Recognize the unique needs of their students and endeavor to meet those needs in- and outside of the classroom.
- Demonstrate energy and enthusiasm for working with students and families from underserved backgrounds.
- Collaborate with teachers, the school principal, and student support team to create a warm, inclusive, and high-performing environment for all community members.
- Apply appropriate intervention strategies for students identified as requiring support for mathematics learning and development.
- Deploy instructional strategies and approaches which reflect best practices for engaging students in sustained inquiry.
- Use assessment data, including MAP and NYS testing, to inform instructional practices and planning.
- Be open to teaching content in other subject areas, with Mathematics and STEM/STEAM education being a top priority.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (or actively working toward completion of a degree) required.
- Certification for science instruction preferred, but not required.
- Passionate about supporting student growth in a faith-based, urban education setting.
- Strong skill set utilizing appropriate educational technologies, including Google Workspace for Education, Smartboards, and Chromebooks.
