Victory Learning Center Program Teacher Assistant

Our Victory Learning Center Program is expanding, and new classrooms will be opening in 2026! Be a part of our growth—join our team and help us make a difference! Our Victory Learning Center Programs offers specialized educational services for students who are diagnosed with Autism or a Cognitive Disability paired with a mental health diagnosis. There are two separate sites conveniently located in Lackawanna, NY, with a third site opening in September 2026!

Our schools service students ages 5-21, who are residentially placed or are referred through their local school district's Committee on Special Education.

Job Summary:

The Behavior Support Technician with TA certification working in our Intensive Treatment Program (ITP) is responsible for the delivery of evidence-based methods to support adolescents, typically 12 – 21 with Autism and/or Intellectual Disability and mental health involvement and works in an Education setting. The methods include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) approaches; classroom observation; observation in residential setting; data collection; supporting staff to implement individual behavior protocols and behavior intervention plans;

and treatment integrity monitoring. In addition, regular assistance with personal hygiene tasks is required.

Job Duties:

  • Participates as an active team member supporting a therapeutic and safe milieu. Attends and participates in community meetings, groups and milieu programming.
  • Maintains compliance and safe levels of student/client supervision as indicated by physician orders and/or Program Director directive.
  • Provides a safe environment for students to learn in. Understands the contraband list and what students/individuals are and are not allowed to have. May need to perform searches of student and their belongings.
  • Assists Teachers with instructional efforts, helps prepare lesson/classroom materials, prepares teaching aids and provides extra assistance to students. May lead classroom instruction in absence of a Teacher.
  • Develops knowledge of therapeutic interventions and interactions including ABA approaches when working with students/individuals. Must have basic knowledge of normal growth and development and the impact of the developmental disabilities on the individual and his/her family.
  • Observes behaviors and communicates to supervisors, medical staff, and others as appropriate if there are concerns. Relays information to peers, proving up to date information and provide feedback to the treatment team.
  • Collects data and works cooperatively with the treatment team to assist in the development of the individualized treatment plan that is based off of pertinent data. Understands and utilizes the prompts and prompt fading as indicated by the treatment plan.
  • Implements the individual behavioral plan that is developed by the education team. Knowledge of and ability to implement individual schedules that are indicated in the behavioral plan. This may include schedules such as sensory schedules, milieu programming, toileting, etc. Utilizes and updates the visual schedule as needed for all activities.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to the Classroom Teacher regarding the individual's response to the behavior plan. Uses token and other earning systems throughout the shift following the individualized behavior plan.
  • Provides ongoing feedback to the Classroom Teacher regarding the individual's IEP goals and lesson plans to meet set goals for student.
  • Responsible for teaching activities of daily living (ADLs), as needed. This may include walking, feeding, and personal hygiene tasks such as dressing and grooming, toileting, bathing, etc.
  • Must demonstrate basic knowledge of sensory equipment. Learn how to provide successful sensory integration to individuals as indicated by their sensory menu and needs assessment.
  • Has basic knowledge of alternative communication techniques including AAC devices and basic sign language.
  • Assists with transporting and loading/unloading for school.
  • Attends staff meetings at a minimum of one time per month.
  • Performs all scheduled cleaning tasks and environmental rounds.
