Computer Science / CTE Teacher (Grades 5–8)

The Computer Science / Career and Technical Education (CTE) Teacher for grades 5–8 provides engaging, standards-based instruction in foundational computer science, digital literacy, and career exploration. This position prepares students with essential technology skills, computational thinking, and awareness of career pathways in a digital world.
Key Responsibilities- Plan and deliver instruction in computer science and CTE aligned with New York State Education Department standards
- Teach topics such as coding, computational thinking, digital citizenship, basic networking, and emerging technologies
- Introduce career pathways in technology, business, and technical fields
- Integrate project-based learning, problem-solving, and real-world applications
- Utilize instructional technologies (e.g., coding platforms, learning management systems, productivity tools)
- Differentiate instruction to meet diverse student needs, including students with IEPs and English Language Learners
- Assess student progress through projects, portfolios, and formative assessments
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment
- Collaborate with colleagues on interdisciplinary and career-readiness initiatives
- Communicate regularly with students, families, and staff
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Technology Education, CTE, Education, or related field (Master's preferred)
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in Computer Science, Technology Education, or CTE (or eligibility)
- Knowledge of computer science principles, instructional technology, and digital tools
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Experience teaching middle school students (grades 5–8)
- Familiarity with coding languages
- Experience with robotics, or STEM/CTE programs
- Knowledge of culturally responsive and inclusive teaching practices
- Classroom/lab environment within a middle school
- Regular use of computers, devices, and instructional technology
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support development of students' technical skills and career awareness
- Maintain accurate records and meet all district deadlines
- Adhere to district policies and professional standards
