ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL – VARIOUS LOCATIONS SCHOOL YEAR)
Buffalo Public Schools is seeking qualified candidates for the Assistant Principal position across the district’s 59 schools and Central Office. The role supports the Superintendent in advancing the district’s transformation goals and the new Education Bargain with students and parents.
QUALIFICATIONS• Master’s degree required.
• Current New York State School District Administrator (SDA), School Supervisor (SAS), School Building Leader (SBL), or Administrator certificate.
• Minimum five years of certificated teaching and/or supervisory experience.
• Prior assistant principal or administrative experience in an urban district is preferred.
• PDF or screenshot of certifications must be attached.
- Develop and maintain clear communication and collaboration among staff, administrators, students, and parents.
- Create and communicate a Comprehensive Education Plan aligned with the district’s vision.
- Develop, oversee, and achieve objectives to ensure student achievement and an effective learning climate.
- Gather, analyze, and disaggregate data to inform instructional improvements.
- Coordinate the school’s staff development program for all faculty and staff.
- Oversee all aspects of curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation.
- Conduct classroom observations and evaluations of teachers.
- Work effectively with teachers to foster professional growth and performance.
- Collaborate with the Department of Curriculum, Assessment & Instruction on district plans.
- Foster a positive school climate and address discipline concerns collaboratively.
- Demonstrate continuous improvement of professional knowledge and skills.
- Represent the school at conferences and district meetings.
- Conduct faculty and grade level meetings.
- Formalize building operational procedures.
- Coordinate the planning, preparation, and dissemination of the school’s master schedule.
- Ensure adherence to legal concepts, state and federal regulations, and Board policies.
- Implement and monitor approved school budget expenditures.
- Monitor building maintenance and improvements.
- Develop a building safety plan and conduct planned fire drills.
- Submit accurate reports to Central Office on time.
- Promote understanding, sensitivity, and respect for multicultural and ethnic diversity.
- Establish and facilitate a Site-Based Management Team that meets regularly.
- Collaborate with universities, colleges, and agencies to implement programs enhancing student achievement.
- Organize and support student orientation, open house, curriculum nights, parent/teacher conferences, and related activities.
- Maintain effective relationships with all building organizations and committees.
- Collaborate and lead other instructional meetings and teams.
- Work with parents and staff to implement and monitor parent engagement activities.
These duties are not exhaustive. The employee may be required to follow additional instructions and perform other related duties as assigned.
APPOINTMENT & SALARYAppointment will be made by the Board of Education upon recommendation of the Superintendent, based on training, experience, credentials, and service evaluation. Personal interviews will be scheduled where appropriate. Assistant Principal salary schedule applies.
