Hourly Salary: $19.27 – Level I Teaching Assistant Certification or Initial TA Certificate; $19.53 – Level II TA; $20.41 – Level III TA
* Rate of pay subject to increase based on settlement of CBA

Erie 1 BOCES seeks Teacher Assistants at our Winchester Academy. Kind and caring individuals are encouraged to apply. Job Responsibilities

Supporting students across the curriculum.

Works with individual students as directed by teacher.

Assists the teacher with marking and correcting work.

Assists with school events, trips and other activities.

Assists in classroom behavior management.

Assists with routine classroom functioning.

Accompanies students when removal from a classroom is necessary or when the students must go to another part of the building.

Assists in restraining students who may exhibit behaviors that are injurious to self or others.

Assists and supervises games and free play, both indoors and outdoors.

Assists teacher in the implementation of activities that include but are not limited to: feeding, lifting, toileting, and other activities of daily living (e.g., grooming, hygiene, leisure/recreation, etc.). Lifts and transports students in conjunction with daily living activities.

Teaching Assistants working with non-ambulatory students are expected to lift 40-pound loads independently and may be required to lift/move students weighing more than 40 pounds with assistance from another adult and/or with the use of appropriate lifting devices.
Special note:
Ability to lift/move students either independently or with assistance is a condition of employment for teaching assistants who work with non-ambulatory students. Initial and periodic physical examinations will test this ability. Teaching Assistants should not attempt to lift more than one-third of their body weight without assistance from another adult or appropriate lifting devices.

Maintains working knowledge and ability to implement classroom and school wide safety plans.

Discuss parental requests for information with the teacher before responding.

Maintain confidentiality of student information.

Assume teacher responsibilities in the absence of the classroom teacher or as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

Valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification – Level I, II, III or Initial TA
Required/willing to obtain TCIS Level 3 certification and ABA Training
Must have experience working with students with significant developmental disabilities in an educational setting
Associate's degree or higher (preferred)
